that is just developed in the last 15 minutes, just north and west of the city, working down toward bethesda, and that will be working inside the city here. in fact, it is now down toward old town alexandra as well. plenty of rain across the region. continues to fall. and rain totals starting to get very impressive numbers and all three area airports yesterday had record rainfall for the day including 4 1/2 inches out of dulles. a lot of rain out there. saturated soil. that will cause some additional flooding issues later today. let me show you what is going on. big picture here. let's swih maps and you will see the big spinout there, just an incredible sight, and we're just about 100 miles south of what would be the center of sandy if it were still intact and you can see it is pulling moisture off the ocean and bringing a lot of mountain snow to western virginia and western maryland. so this will gradually push off to the north and west through the course of the day and as it does so, we should see our winds gradually subside and the shower activities lighten later today. 23 in leo

have crews tracking the storm in ocean city, annapolis, and fairfax county. but we begin with tucker barnes. he has the latest on sandy's changing path. >> since you went bed, san i cannen i did continues to intensify. that pressure's been falling overnight. when the pressure falls, that tells us the storm's getting stronger. a lot of reasons to be concerned about later this afternoon, tonight, as the storm makes its way inland. this is the real deal now, outer bands, yellow and red working across maryland and virginia, now really making their presence felt. the rain has been picking up pace, and will likely be moderate to heavy at times here during the course of your morning hours. that's stage one, first the heavy rains move in, then the winds. let's take a closer look at your storm system. there you go, you can see the heavy rain throughout the beltway, south and east of the city, southern maryland getting some very heavy rain, parts of prince georges county. let's see out towards annapolis is getting good rain at the moment as well. you're out towards the west, you too will get i

, say they are dealing with a violent crime spike that includes the city's first murder of the year. 36-year-old lamont ellis was found dead in an alleyway early sunday morning. he had been shot multiple times. friends and family members gathered at a visual last night. police don't have a suspect nor a motive right now. fox 5 was working the story, conducting interviews at police headquarters, shots did ring out nearby. officers raced to that scene. it turned out to be a street fight. along west south street. >> it was a mess. it was chaos. there was at least 20 people there, and they had five or six of them, started to break out in a fight. and everybody just started to join in. >> police say one person was stabbed. and is listed in serious condition. no word if the two incidents are related. >> 10 years ago today, our region was traumatized by a sniper shooting spree. the beginning of it. for three weeks in october of 2002, people around our area did not know where the next victims would be shot. john allen muhammad and lee boyd malvo were found guilty of killing 10 people and in

breaking this morning, dutch police say seven paintings were stolen from a museum in the city of rotter dam. the theft one of the largest in years in the netherlands. took place during a private viewing of a collection. the collections were part of the museum's 20th anniversary celebrations. stolen pieces include works from -- museum officials say the paintings are worth a quote significant amount as you can imagine. >>> well, prince george's county police are still looking for a suspect in the shooting death of a teenager monday afternoon at his home. he was shot at his home on 25th avenue in hillcrest heights. relatives tell fox 5 the teen answered a knock at the door and an argument followed and then that young person was shot. he later died at the hospital. police are unsure of a motive at this time. >>> and good news in the search for two virginia men missing in a montana national park. they've been missing since friday. neal peckens and jason hiser both veterinarians were found yesterday afternoon in glacier national park where they'd been hiking. the two fell down a ravine. they

we've got rain south and east of the city here, southeast side there down towards andrews air force base and then north and west up to sunny gates as we're getting some pretty good rains. it's been with us all morning long here. we continue to be under a risk for flooding. we have a warning here we'll show you in just a second. i want to show you the big picture, show you the spin. just incredible. now, of course, the center of what was sandy, no longer with us, but if it were, it would be right about here. again, you can see that wide circulation still drawing moisture in off the atlantic, just an incredible spin. look how much of the country is being impacted by this storm at this hour, all the way out to chicago, cleveland, down into the carolinas, up into northern new england, still dealing with rain and wind associated with sandy. and we're very close to the center. so we're going to be in for plenty of rain showers during the day today and the potential that you could even see a few snowflakes if you're out to the west. so look out for that possibility as temperatures outside are v

morning, for the first time a team of fbi agents has arrived in benghazi and has already left the city. the agency is investigating last month's deadly attack on the american consulate. they have 60 days to issue a report. >>> police say it was a miracle no one was seriously hurt after this school bus plunged over a texas highway overpass, falling more than 15 feet. investigators say the bus was clipped by a car and landed on the door stop of a hotel below the overpass. one child and two adults were on board. they are all in stable condition. >>> more fallout from two recent incidents involving loose seats on american airlines flights. while american scrambles to fix the problem, it's canceled 44 flights for today. yesterday airline officials began pulling nearly 50 planes out of service to make the repairs. all the planes should be back in service by tomorrow. if you're flying on american today, double-check. 44flights canceled. >>> wow. that's big. >> yeah, it is. >> better safe, i know. >> sure. >> what's going on, tuck? >> friday and weather is going to cooperate. cool start, with tempe

, lauren demarco is live in ocean city. >> holly morris is live in annapolis, and melanie is monitoring the situation in channeltilly. >> conditions continue to worsen this morning as heavy rain, high winds, and huge waste pound the coast. >> waves are already crashing over the shore's sea wall. they've taken out part of a fishing pier. roads are flooded, people are being urged to evacuate, lauren demarco is live in ocean city now with the latest, lauren, we really thought kicking up right around high tide just like you said, around 8:19, 8:20. >> reporter: of course, that high tide may particularly higher this morning because of the full moon, tucker ws saying about 5% higher. so definitely feeling the impact here. the waves very pretty wild. we did hear that offshore, waste about 21 feet here. eyeballing it, it looks to be upwards of 15 feet. as you were saying yes the water makes its way over the sea wall. there's about four to five inchings of water on the board walk itself right now. police and emergency vehicles are still able to access that, they're actually driving on the board walk

old town alexandria. they're used to this. the city also warns people to be aware there's flooding down here. usually happens maybe once a year, sometimes a couple of times a year. this is certainly not the worst they've ever seen. but they always get everyone prepared. they handed out sand bags yesterday in advance of high tide last night. most of the businesses put them up around the lower window areas. so it was certainly less than what was expected here, and i think that is probably the good news. again, we are waiting for high tide this morning. there is a possibility with high tide today and perhaps tomorrow that it could come up about this high. we'll have to wait and see what happens. that's the latest from old town. back to you. >> melanie alnwick, thank you. >>> the governor of maryland will get a firsthand look at the devastation along the coast later today. the pier in ocean city was destroyed by sandy. it also forced many to evacuate. governor o'malley will visit a shelter and will join the mayor in ocean city to get an update on the damage there. >>> an update now on
